Linda L. Ruffalo Young Heroes of Conscience Series
Making "Little Women": Louisa May Alcott
By Gregory Stieber & Michele DeVinney
Directed by Gregory Stieber

Best known for writing Little Women, Louisa May Alcott’s own evolving womanhood was more complex than that of her alter ego Jo March. A dedicated feminist and abolitionist, her relationship with her father, a figure largely absent from her classic novel, allowed her to associate with literary greats like Thoreau and Emerson. But her father’s shortcomings and failures also informed her desire to be free from the constraints of marriage and motherhood, leaving her determined to "paddle my own canoe."
